Hey, I haven't posted in a while. Not that it really matters or anything, but hey. I'm still alive and kicking. Pretty much nothing out of the ordinary has been happening in my life lately, so I'll make a 2 point list of the things currently going on.
1. Playing through the King's Quest series for the internets. Up to KQ4 at this point. Videos can be found over at Youtube, as usual.
2. I'm currently up to the point of a second interview for a possible job transfer within Chase. I'd be moving from Ops to a Business Analyst position. I honestly didn't think I even had a shot at first, and now it's looking like it might become a reality, which would be great. We're currently trying to work out scheduling issues, since me and the guy who I'm supposed to interview with are both very busy.
1) Ka-me-ha-me-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! - Without getting too wordsy, Dragonball. Something Iknowstuffabout. I'm recovering from ridiculous fanboy levels, at least.
2) 8-bit - Only one of the best, if not most ridiculously difficult, generation of video games around. I grew up on this stuff, man.
3) hair - My hair annoys me. I like long hair, but I can't be bothered to take proper care of it, so I keep mine short now (also for work).
4) Saginaw - The Sag-nasty will always be home, no matter if I'm there or not. I wonder if it's still totally segregated via the river.
5) Nintendo - Number one in video games in my eyes. I will probably always own something of Nintendo's creation at some point in my life.
We went to the Apple Store today to take Annie's laptop in to get a stuck DVD out of the drive. They didn't have any drives handy, so they confiscated the computer to order some parts. I remember I hadn't checked the mail yesterday and did so to find a letter from a legal team back up in Michigan. I had been expecting this, as I had money coming in for inheritance from my Great Aunt who passed on earlier this year.
So, out pops a check for $19,683.95. More money that I've actually ever seen in my entire life.
Looks like I can finally replace this shitbox of a computer, and have a nice little safety net left over for any emergency that might pop up. It's a good feeling.
So, we went out to see Dragonball Evolutions today, and I must admit I was rather pleasantly surprised. The movie isn't nearly as much of a trainwreck as I was expecting, and actually managed to be fairly entertaining at points. It even follows the story of the base Dragonball story (pre-Z) somewhat well, though it mixes some things up here and there and has a few particular oddities about it. My main points of contention are:
1. Piccolo looked terrible. Which is doubly sad since everything else looked pretty good.
2. Oozaru as Piccolo's servant. That's... about as far off the mark as you can feasibly get. Made better by a (not-so for people who know the base store) spoily reveal near the end, but still kind of weird.
3. Piccolo has a henchwoman, Mai. I'm sure fans out there might remember Mai. My main problem with this (aside from the oddity of partnering her with Piccolo in the first place) is that they never actually name her at any point in the movie. I couldn't figure out who she was until the credits.
4. Yamcha's terrible bleached hair.
Everything else was pretty decent, really. Chow Yun Fat as Roshi was just plain awesome. They actually held back on piling Ki special effects throughout the thing even though they totally could have gotten away with it, and the story changes weren't completely terrible in most cases.
High point of movie for me: Goku gelling the shit out of his hair only to have it go flying all out of place again seconds later, splattering gel all over. Piccolo force choking a house is a close second.
Posting mainly to show off my creepy new Waluigi icon I grabbed from Brawl in the Family. Isn't it terrifying?
Life is still going pretty good, so I really don't have a whole lot to post about. Picked up Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia for me and Annie, and it's actually surprisingly fun. The story is really campy, but it's still funny and Team Dim Sun has the most awesome battle theme ever. I'd recommend it if you're a pokemon fan and want a little side game to mess with.
Happy birthday to fealubryne and firebyrd. May you have a great many more!
I had thought of making some sort of video, but I couldn't think of anything good. I didn't think a sacrifice of a damsel in distress and the Spelunky-man would go over so well. Now a shoot out with the shopkeeper, on the other hand...
So, that insurance thing? They agreed to take a $2,500.00 lump sum payment in liu of the full 8 grand. That worked out well in my favor, I like to think.
In other news, I started up a Warrior on Guild Wars, which cessball so kindly bought me. It is quite the fun MMO so far, and I'm still only in the tutorial area. Haven't managed to get myself killed yet, though I've been doing some remarkably stupid things with the help of my special Fire Imp buddy that I got through having the Game of the Year edition. You can't control him so he tends to spazz out a bit when there's a bunch of enemies around and attack all of them, leading to painful groups of doom. I worked out how to deal with that though.
So, I recently beat Chrono Trigger DS, as well as the new places that come along with it to see the new ending, and I kind of feel a need to speak on the subject briefly.
On a final note, though, the team of Crono, Ayla, and Robo is so amazingly overpowered. Maybe that's why I thought the game in general was easier. Frenzy + Triple Kick + Rapid Fire Fist makes everything in the game die in record time. It's kind of pathetic really.
Anyone else have any thought to share on the subject? Spoilers don't matter to me since I've beaten it and all, but you might want to be mindful of others.
Even though it's been roughly 2.5 years now, getting up at 4/5ish AM for work still really blows. I kinda thought that'd be something I'd get used to eventually.
I totally need to visit somebody's town in City Folk also just to show off how freaky my character looks at the moment. I'm at work though so I can't do that, obviously. Soon the second floor loan will be paid off and the basement will be mine.
Also I ate 100 turnips yesterday instead of throwing them on the floor in my house. Because I'm a moron like that sometimes. I'm guessing that the price for turnips will shoot up to like 1000 bells per or something sometime this week just to spite me.
The new translation in Chrono Trigger DS is fairly interesting from the bits and pieces I've seen.
I still need to figure out another idea for a new video for my channel on Youtube. I think I have one, but maybe not. It'll have to wait for the weekend though.
So, while wandering the mall type area with cessball, we came across an odd looking little game for the Wii, Dokapon Kingdom. Upon looking at the back of the box, we both simultaneously decided "We must own this immediately" and she promptly bought it. We then proceeded to bring it home and play it for like three hours straight.
So, what is it, you ask? Take Mario Party and turn it into an RPG board game where the object is to become the richest player by any means necessary and pretty much every item you pick up that isn't intended to help out your stats for battle is purely meant for fucking over the other players. It's got towns to rescue (which add to your total value as well as lets you have a place to heal up for free), shops you can buy stuff from or attempt to steal from (by playing Rock Paper Scissors against the owner for either non-stock items or Wanted status if you lose), and monsters to battle. Turns are measured as Days, and each week you get a status report showing who's worth the most.
As for fucking other people over, let's go for a light example. After I starting saving bunches of towns with my awesome Warrior, Annie took her thiefly (and blue) self to the item shop and promptly robbed it, getting a revival potion, some other potion I forget, and a Cunning Disguise, which lets her look like another player. A few turns later, she proceeds to go to the first town I saved, put on said disguise, and promptly stole the accrued taxes and healed up for free. I've yet to get my convoluted and horrible revenge, but it will happen!
Anyways, highly reccomend it if you have a Wii and some friends. ;)
So, myself and cessball picked up the Wii Animal Crossing yesterday and have been divying up the tools and such as Nook gets them in his shop along with hilariously hideous carpeting and wallpaper. I like the new addtions so far, the City is pretty neat and the smoother graphics make everything look real slick. Lobo is in our town and he's totally my favorite resident ever since the Gamecube game, so I took the house next door to his. Cessy lives next to some cat bitch, Olivia.
In the first set of tools, I took the Fishing Pole and Cess took the Bug Net and the Watering Can (and will also get the first axe since I'm hopeless at landscaping aside from pulling weeds. Maybe I can con her into letting me have the first shovel in return... though she was annoyed that I caught a bunch of rare fish on my first runthrough and gave them to the museum. (And believe me, giving away that Red Snapper was a painful decision to make...)
Anybody out there on my friends list have this and want to trade codes? Lobo was already complaining about wanting new people to come visit sometime. We both got Mii Makeovers (which are apparently Masks, according to the Designs tab) so we look kinda like us. They also have the hidden benefit of hiding your bee abused face nicely.
Anyways, if anyone wants to add us and come for a visit, let me or her know. We can grab our friend code for you at some point.
Just to say my Required Politcal Piece: Though I didn't vote for him, I kind of hope Obama wins. A lot of people need a reality check, and I admit that I might be one of them. I feel if Obama wins, there will probably be some much needed eye opening SOMEWHERE.
In other news, Cess is here, which is pretty cool. And now for a little news on two games I've been playing recently:
Fallout 3: This game is hilarious, and (in my opinion) a pretty good follow up to the feel of the original games in most ways. I like the V.A.T.S. system, and the fact that you don't have to use it makes it non-intrusive. I also like shotgunning a guy's head into pieces and then being able to loot his entire body from one of the pieces. Or the fact that I managed to make a guy's body explode into chunks with a stick after I took the bloody mess trait. I reccomend this one.
Mirror's Edge: Okay, I've only played the demo of this, but I have a pretty good comparison for it: It reminds me muchly of the flash game N. It rewards practice, fluidity of your motion through the level, and speed, and when you do everything right it looks amazingly awesome and you feel like a total badass... but damn if it's not amazingly difficult to be awesome at it. The demo only has one level, but it gives you a pretty good feel for the basics. It's fun, but I wanted to pull my hair out after repeatedly missing a jump onto a pipe. As a warning, I may just suck at it. I would totally buy it when it comes out if I weren't a poor, cheap bastard.
Man, I can't wait for election day to show up. I'm so tired of seeing this shit everywhere I go with half-truths, uninformed statements with no backup, and blatant lies being told about (and by) both sides (and the current administration too, though I've managed to get that on ignore status after 8 years of bullshit from 90% of the country).
It's getting in the way of more amusing news like the police running people down and shoving tasers into people's brains for no reason, too.
There's something deeply entertaining about creating abominations against natural law and leading them to become space faring civilizations, though I haven't gotten that far yet. And I suppose I've only created two creatures so far. But it's still fun, dammit. Check them out: this is what I'm currently playing, and this is something I made this morning to pass time before heading off to work.
